Equine Flu Vaccination Changes from Jan 1, 2024
You may already be aware, but from 1st January 2024 the vaccination rules for Equine Flu have changed in accordance with advice from British Equestrian.
The main changes are from the 1st January, 2024 any horses starting or re-starting their flu vaccinations must fit new intervals for their primary course of vaccines to be able to compete in most organised competitions. Vaccinations that are up-to-date and correct will not be affected and 6 month or 12 month boosters for those horses remain the same.
Competition horse owners should ensure that their horse or pony is vaccinated for Equine Flu in accordance with the rules of the appropriate sporting governing bodies under which they are competing (i.e. FEI, British Eventing, British Dressage, British Showjumping, The Pony Club, British Riding Clubs, etc) and please note VACCINATION RULES DIFFER BETWEEN THESE ORGANISATIONS. It is your responsibility to ensure that your horse or pony’s vaccinations are up to date and comply with necessary requirements.
We are updating our reminders system to comply with the dates on this table. If your primary course was before 1 Jan, 2024 you don't need to adhere to this new timetable but for the sake of consistency and to avoid this growing too complicated we will be advising that you do so.
Our office teams and vets are happy to offer advice and check your horse’s vaccination record at any time - so feel free to give us a call or email office@horsevets.co.uk
